We don’t just talk about helping families – we walk the walk. This weekend, we’re joining forces with families throughout Southern California to support those affected by autism spectrum disorders through the Walk Now for Autism Speaks in Pasadena.
One out of every seven students we educate receives special education assistance, and many are on the autism spectrum. In the 2010-2011 school year, these students made a 78% improvement on test scores as a result of their tutoring experience with us.
The California state budget crisis has put an added strain on many families facing autism as elibility restrictions for autism therapy services have been cut. We strive to help the families affected by these changes through a variety of resources. By offering private tutoring services to students of all ages and backgrounds, as well as free tutoring services to qualifying students in Los Angeles and New York, we hope to connect students and families in need with caring and experienced educators trained to work with a variety of learning styles and personalities.
“While one-on-one academic tutoring does not take the place of Applied Behavioral Analysis or other therapeutic interventions, it can still give children with autism a big boost in their schoolwork,” says Dr. Kim Finger, our Chief Operating Officer who has over 20 years of experience in the autism services industry. “Tutoring also provides a mentoring relationship and opportunities for socialization that can be very valuable for children with autism who are working on social skill development.”
Eligibility for our free tutoring services is determined by local school districts, so families should check with their school to learn if they qualify. Thank you for your help and support!
